Rich on a Roll
Newly elected President of the ACF/Chicago Chef, alumnus Rich Naglich is now the CHICAGO CHEF OF THE YEAR!! - - and he deserves it. When he found out Midwest Imports was moving, he got us space at the new Washburne Culinary Institute and got our archives items ready to move.
He has chaired three fundraisers that made money. He works every day and is a single dad.
He doesn’t brag, he just does it. Rich, you are the “Chef of the Year” maybe the decade.
Keep up the great job.
We love you! God Bless!!
John is the Head Man
Alumni member John Meyer is the Chairman of the Illinois Restaurant Association. After graduation from Washburne in 1992, he worked at the University Club until he opened “The Retreat” in the Pullman Area.
He opened B.J. Market and Bakery in 1997. It was named one of the top restaurants in Chicago by James Ward. In 2001, he opened a second B.J.’s Market and Bakery at 8734 South Stony Island and a third in 2004 at 1156 West 79th.
John has had a booth at the Taste of Chicago for 10 years and always sent food to our meeting at the Taste.
With all those things, John still has a wonderful family life. He has a happy marriage to Hope and two great children – Brandon, 13 and Brianna, 8. He is a loving husband and a great father.
With all these things going on, he remembers where he came from. Whenever he is interviewed, he mentions Washburne Trade School Chef’s.
Keep up the tremendous work John!! Good Luck and God Bless!!

Frederick Leaves Us
Original WTS Chef’s Alumni member Fredrick Cohn passed away on February 1, 2008 after a longtime on dialysis.
Fredrick was a leader in our industry since his graduation. He was the owner of Selectable Delectables. He found time in his busy career to chair several Alumni fundraisers. He spent hours recruiting members to put in the hours preparing and manning the booths. He solicited items for all areas of the event. Fredrick did his best to improve the Alumni Association.
He will be missed.
Fredrick, may you rest in peace.
